Beijing, March 15 (Xinhua) - China will accelerate the construction of a group of world-class airports for the development of the economic circle of Chengdu-Chongqing, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said on Tuesday.

The economic circle of Chengdu-Chongqing is an important regional development strategy after the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the" target="_BLANK">" target="_BLANK">" target="_BLANK">" target="_BLANK">Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong- Hong. Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

"Creation of the airport cluster is a crucial task for the construction of the economic circle," said administration official, Sun Wensheng, noting that airports of The region currently does not have sufficient capacity to handle international flights.

By 2025, the airport cluster will have 12 airports with annual transport capabilities of 210 million passengers and 3.7 million tons of cargo, handling around 1.5 million of Ann flights according to a circular emitted by the administration.

A convenient, safe, intelligent, green and highly efficient airport cluster, will increase the economic development of Chengdu-Chongqing's economic circle, the circular said.

Efforts will be made in areas that include the construction of small and medium airports, air traffic control, civil aviation.
