1. **Introduction**: When I recall my days as a volunteer in China, memories of joy and trepidation flood the mind: serving with the Peace Corps was an incredible opportunity to explore Chinese culture while teaching English students about American customs.
2. As we settled into our hotel rooms for orientation at what would be our starting point – 3 years ago now from my last day on a job as it is known, I recall being given out copies of “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” by Driven in the morning before even getting to know everyone’s names or anything else about them.
**Travel**: It was also then when we were told that our new lives would be spent at Xindu University – located a couple hours south from Chengdu which is 3,000 miles away for Americans and Europeans alike; but this trip was different because I had no prior international travel experience before volunteering with the Peace Corps.
**A fact**: Serving as an English teacher in China may have been one of my toughest jobs yet loved due to requiring me at all hours from sunrise – working through lunch breaks while grading papers, or getting off work early enough for students and colleagues alike so they could get home safe.
3. At a glance back on Xindu University’s website I still remember the beautiful campus where I spent those formative years of my life; we were able to help hundreds learn about English from us – both teachers’ as well student interns who worked alongside me in their studies toward graduation, which indeed is one part that remains unchanged up till now.
**The hidden truth**: Although Xindu University was very much a real college back then - under the Peace Corps program for American students to serve China there were many things about it I never knew existed – and only after leaving did those become apparent in my mind with time; however, “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” is something that has kept me company even when Xindu University was still fresh.
**Beyond predictions**: If you think this title seems to be more than what the Peace Corps had planned then bear it – I found no better phrase myself for defining all these memories we build by a couple years of work.
4. And so, my journey with “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” begins - in truth from Driven himself when he spoke about how jobs are not only something to be done but also need an account made – even the ones I loved serving and teaching alongside Xindu University students were ultimately on borrowed time which makes everything all that more appreciable.
**A fact**: Serving as a volunteer English teacher in China required me at every stage from sunrise till night, so working through lunch breaks grading papers or getting off work early enough for colleagues to get home safe – it indeed was one of my toughest jobs yet loved due the requirements.
5. It is still hard but “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” has a lot in store even now - this program made me learn English from hundreds as an intern, where I could have just been teaching them myself had Driven not brought Peace Corps to Xindu University – then what of my life would be like?
**The hidden truth**: A couple years back when “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” was introduced by the author himself - it gave me insight, and a newfound appreciation for jobs as something other than ‘just getting done’ but ones that are part in making.
6. The fact is simple; serving with Xindu University students taught hundreds of new English skills – “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” allowed them to apply these newly found abilities by giving me the chance - which makes everything all that more appreciable and ultimately I am thankful for this opportunity where my life has become what it now is.

**Conclusion**: As we look at Xindu University students from then till today, “Find Work Abroad: Beyond Predictions” remains a program whose name – even in the current moment - continues to echo memories of serving as an English teacher with hundreds; and so on reflection upon these moments I am thankful for this opportunity where my life has become what it now is.
